Yahoo has finally announced that it will turn on HTTPS encryption by default for yahoo Mail next year.. Four years after Google announced the same thing for Gmail, and two years for Microsoft during the transition between Hotmail and Outlook (it was an option in Hotmail in 2010.
Yahoo has confirmed to The Washington Post that it plans to turn on HTTPS encryption by default for yahoo Mail starting January 8, 2014.
Yahoo has been slow to make the move to secure connection for its Yahoo Mail service, so much in fact, that last year the EFF and several other groups sent a letter to the company asking officials to make the change, Google enabled HTTPS only by default for its Gmail users in 2010, just after company officially came out publicly and disclosed that Chinese attackers had penetrated Google and several others companies as part of a targeted attack campaign.
